    Project Overview

The Green Building achieved LEED Gold certification through a comprehensive sustainability strategy spanning energy optimization, water conservation, responsible materials sourcing, and advanced indoor environmental quality management. As the first government building in Pakistan to receive international green building certification, this 99,415 sq.ft. facility establishes a precedent for sustainable public infrastructure development across the region.

At certification, the facility delivered 24.9% source energy savings and 24.9% greenhouse gas emissions reduction against ASHRAE 90.1-2010 baselines, powered by a 98 kWp on-site photovoltaic system generating 13.7% of the building's annual energy demand. Water performance was exceptional. Indoor water use reduction reached 50.04% beyond code baselines, with zero landscape irrigation through a no-irrigation design strategy and full rainwater management at the 98th percentile rain event.

Innovation was a standout category, achieving a perfect 6 out of 6 points through five distinct strategies: LEED O+M Starter Kit implementation establishing four operational sustainability policies from day one, an all-LED lighting strategy eliminating mercury-containing lamps, a USGBC Pilot Credit for Advanced Transportation Monitoring Systems, and exemplary performance achievements in both parking footprint reduction (81.66% below base ratios) and heat island mitigation. The building integrates EV charging infrastructure, advanced energy and water metering systems, demand response capability, enhanced commissioning, and comprehensive construction waste management with 77.79% diversion across four waste streams. SIDEworks managed the full LEED certification lifecycle through four sequential GBCI review phases, successfully resolving complex technical review comments across energy modeling, ventilation rate procedures, commissioning documentation, and materials compliance.

    Key Achievements

    • Pakistan's first public sector building to achieve LEED Gold certification. 66 of 110 points under LEED BD+C: New Construction. Perfect Innovation score (6/6) including USGBC Pilot Credit 134. Achieved 24.9% source energy savings and 24.9% GHG emissions reduction at certification. Delivered 50.04% indoor water use reduction. 98 kWp on-site photovoltaic system contributing 13.7% renewable energy. Zero landscape irrigation. 98th percentile rainwater management. 81.66% parking reduction (exemplary performance). 77.79% construction waste diversion. EV charging infrastructure. Enhanced commissioning with demand response capability. Four GBCI review phases successfully navigated.

    Sustainability Strategy

The sustainability strategy was designed to demonstrate that LEED Gold performance is achievable within Pakistan's public sector construction framework, establishing a replicable model for government buildings nationally. Key strategic pillars included on-site renewable energy generation through a 98 kWp photovoltaic system, aggressive water conservation achieving over 50% indoor reduction with zero irrigation, enhanced commissioning protocols ensuring long-term operational performance, advanced metering infrastructure for both energy and water systems enabling ongoing performance tracking, demand response capability preparing the building for future smart grid integration, responsible materials sourcing with lifecycle assessment and environmental product transparency, and a comprehensive innovation strategy leveraging pilot credits and exemplary performance to maximize certification outcomes. The project meets the most current and stringent LEED energy performance criteria, positioning it among the first buildings in the region to satisfy the updated energy and GHG requirements.
